Stephen Constantine, the man who led Pakistan’s national football team to a historic World Cup qualification milestone, has officially stepped down as head coach. In an emotional farewell message shared on Instagram, Constantine reflected on his time with the team, calling it

“an incredible honor and a profound personal experience.”

Constantine, who took charge in late 2023, inherited a broken system—an unstructured team, no functioning domestic league, and political interference that constantly disrupted preparations. Yet under his leadership, Pakistan made history by qualifying for the second round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the first time and recording their first-ever win in a World Cup qualifying match—a 1-0 victory against Cambodia in Islamabad on October 17, 2023.

“This wasn’t just about one match or one campaign—it was about lighting a flame,”

Constantine said. He praised the resilience and passion of his players and staff, adding:

“We gave people a reason to be proud of their national team again.”

Despite minimal resources, limited training opportunities, and ongoing administrative chaos, Constantine’s tenure ignited hope among fans.

“I have worked in many countries,” he said, “but I have never seen so many grown men cry with joy.”

He expressed deep gratitude to the people of Pakistan, the players, and the support staff.

“Your tireless commitment, professionalism, and quiet sacrifices behind the scenes helped drive this team forward. I owe you more than words can say.”

With Constantine’s departure, the Pakistan Football Federation faces a crucial decision on who will take the reins next, as the team looks to build on the foundation he has laid.
