In recent months, transfer rumours have started to circulate around key Pakistani national team players—some grounded in fact, others still speculative. Footballer.pk investigated the most persistent whispers and spoke directly to those involved.
🇮🇹 Omer Rao to Italy?
Perhaps the most concrete rumour surrounds Omer Rao, the dynamic defender who has been linked with a potential move to Italy. We reached out to Luca Ibba, agent at Underdog Sports Consulting and long-time associate of USD Bari Sardo, a Sardinian club actively scouting South Asian talent.
Luca confirms that they are “actively observing Omer Rao” and are exploring ways to facilitate a visa and contract arrangement for summer 2025.
However, the challenges are significant. As Luca notes, Pakistani citizenship continues to present difficulties in acquiring EU work visas, especially without dual nationality—even for players with impressive national team experience.
🇸🇰 Shayek Dost to Slovakia?
Another promising name on the radar is Shayek Dost, rumoured to be heading to Europe with a potential destination in Slovakia. We contacted Ladislav Kazan, president of OFK Branc, who confirmed the interest:
“We are very interested in Shayek Dost’s profile,” Kazan shared, “but the visa situation is extremely complicated. We also need a financial sponsor to be able to proceed seriously.”
OFK Branc is known for giving chances to underrepresented markets but admits that without external funding, such signings remain aspirational.
🇮🇹 Alamgir Ghazi on the Italian Radar?
Back in Italy, Alamgir Ghazi—currently engaged in Bhutan—is also reportedly being watched. Luca Ibba confirmed to us that Ghazi is “on their radar”, especially following his performance in Bhutan’s top league. There is no contract offer yet, but consistent performances abroad are helping to increase his visibility.
🇪🇸 Mamoon Khan in Spain?
Rumours have emerged suggesting that Mamoon Khan may have relocated to Spain and could be featuring in a fifth-division club. However, Footballer.pk could not independently verify this claim. No official registration has yet been tracked in the federations we reached out to.
🇸🇦 Waleed Khan Trialing in Saudi Arabia
Another name generating buzz is Waleed Khan, currently known to be trialing at clubs in Saudi Arabia’s 2nd and 3rd divisions. While we are aware of his presence in the region, there is no confirmed contract or official trial listing at the moment.
Obstacles
We also spoke with Hammad Afzal of Underdog Sports Consulting, the agency that manages several of these talents. He outlined the broader issue:
“European clubs are observing Pakistani players—especially national team members—but the lack of a consistent domestic professional league makes it difficult. While good international appearances help, clubs want to see consistent, professional-level match fitness before investing in players who also come with visa and legal costs.”
The bottom line: Talent exists, but without structural support and league continuity, crossing the bridge into Europe remains a high-risk endeavour for most clubs.
Nonetheless, interest is growing. Clubs like USD Bari Sardo and OFK Branc show that there is genuine scouting activity happening, and with the right conditions—visa facilitation, sponsorships, and player development pipelines—these rumours could become reality.
