Pakistan’s men’s national football team will return to international tournament action next month, as they prepare to compete in the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament in Maldives from 1–10 June 2026.

The four-nation event, held during the June FIFA International Window, will feature hosts Maldives alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The tournament marks a celebratory occasion for Maldives, commemorating their diamond jubilee independence.

Tournament Format and Venue

Organised by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), the competition will follow a single round-robin format. Each team will face one another once, with the top two sides advancing to the final scheduled for 10 June.

All fixtures will take place at the National Football Stadium in Malé, offering a centralized venue for the entire tournament.

Pakistan’s Match Schedule

Pakistan will begin their campaign with a South Asian clash against Bangladesh on 1 June at 4:00 PM PKT. The Shaheens will then take on tournament hosts Maldives on 4 June, followed by their final group-stage fixture against Afghanistan on 7 June. All matches are set to kick off at the same time.

The compact schedule will test Pakistan’s squad depth and match readiness, with three fixtures in the span of a week.

Preparations Under Nolberto Solano

The national side is currently in training camp at the Jinnah Sports Complex in Islamabad under head coach Nolberto Solano. Preparations are in full swing, with the coaching staff expected to finalize the traveling squad in the coming days.

Solano is likely to field a competitive lineup, as Pakistan looks to build momentum ahead of a crucial period in the regional calendar.

First Tournament in Three Years

This marks Pakistan’s first appearance in an international friendly tournament since the Mauritius Four Nations Cup in June 2023. In that competition, Pakistan faced African opposition including Mauritius, Kenya, and Djibouti, gaining valuable exposure against diverse playing styles.

The Maldives tournament now offers another opportunity to test the squad in a structured competitive environment.

Focus on SAFF Championship

The upcoming tournament holds added significance as part of Pakistan’s preparation for the SAFF Championship later this year. With limited international fixtures in recent seasons, such tournaments are vital for team cohesion and tactical development.

Pakistan will also be aiming to end their winless run, having not recorded a victory since their 1-0 win over Cambodia on 17 October 2023 during the first round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian qualifiers.

A Crucial Opportunity

For Pakistan, the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament is more than just a friendly competition. It presents a timely chance to rebuild confidence, sharpen performances, and regain a winning edge on the international stage.

With regional rivals in contention and preparation for the SAFF Championship underway, all eyes will be on how Solano’s side responds in Malé.
